Expert from IICA Participates in Uzbek-Chinese Forum in Shanghai
On 6–7 June this year, Deputy Director of the International Institute for Central Asia (IICA) Sh. Fayziev took part in the Uzbek-Chinese Think Tanks Forum «Top-20», which was held in Shanghai under the title «A New Stage in Uzbek-Chinese Relations: Shared Vision and Shared Future».

The event was organized by the Shanghai Academy of Global Governance and International Studies at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) and the «Development Strategy» Center (Uzbekistan).

The forum brought together experts from leading analytical centers and research institutions of Uzbekistan and China. On the Chinese side, participants included the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, the China Institute of International Studies, Peking University, Fudan University, and East China Normal University. On the Uzbek side - the «Development Strategy» Center, IICA, ISRS, CFSII, the Center for Progressive Reforms, UWED, the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies.

During the discussions, experts from both countries examined the current state and prospects of Uzbek-Chinese cooperation, as well as further strengthening of regional connectivity and interaction mechanisms within the «Central Asia – China» format.

In his speech, Sh. Fayziev noted that a qualitative transformation is underway in Central Asia, accompanied by strengthened trust, increased connectivity, and the formation of sustainable mechanisms of regional coordination.

It was emphasized that thanks to open political dialogue and joint efforts of the states of the region, a «New Central Asia» is being formed - a space of shared interests, good-neighbourliness, and joint development.

Particular attention was also paid to the dynamic development of Uzbek-Chinese relations, which have been elevated to the level of an all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership. It was noted that this format creates additional opportunities for deepening cooperation in trade and economic, transport and logistics, innovation, and humanitarian spheres.

Alongside this, significant potential was noted for the further development of cooperation in the «Central Asia – China» format, which serves as an important mechanism for expanding industrial cooperation, strengthening supply chains, training qualified personnel, as well as developing educational and scientific interaction.

During the forum, Chinese experts highly assessed the reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan and the country’s growing role in regional processes. Participants emphasized that thanks to a consistent good-neighbourly policy, the region is strengthening its position as one of the most stable and dynamically developing spaces in Eurasia.

Special attention was given to the development of humanitarian cooperation, academic mobility, and joint research projects. In this regard, the importance of interaction between the expert communities of the two countries was underlined as one of the key elements of long-term partnership.

The Uzbek-Chinese Forum of Leading Analytical Centers is a new platform for high-level expert dialogue between Uzbekistan and China. The forum was established in December 2025 by the Shanghai Academy of Global Governance and International Studies at SISU and the «Development Strategy» Center.

The key task of the platform is to develop expert interaction, support joint research, and elaborate practical recommendations for expanding Uzbek-Chinese cooperation in bilateral and multilateral formats.
