IICA Hosts Meeting with Leadership of the Central Asia–Korea Forum Secretariat
On May 13, the International institute for Central Asia (IICA) Director Javlon Vakhabov held a meeting with Kim Yong-uk, newly appointed Director of the Secretariat of the Central Asia–Republic of Korea Cooperation Forum.

The sides exchanged views on the current state and future development of interregional cooperation within the Central Asia–Korea format, as well as ways to expand cooperation between the Secretariat and IICA.

Javlon Vakhabov highlighted the steady momentum in the Republic of Korea's engagement with Central Asian states and noted the institutional resilience of the format, which has been developing since 2007 and now spans a broad range of cooperation areas.

Particular attention was given to trade, economic and investment partnership, technological cooperation, human capital development, and the expansion of cultural and humanitarian ties.

In turn, Kim Yong-uk stressed that Central Asia is viewed as an important priority in the Republic of Korea's foreign policy strategy, noting Uzbekistan's growing role in strengthening regional unity and advancing the Central Asia–Korea format.

The sides also noted the importance of expert and analytical support for the format, including through joint events and preparations for the upcoming leaders' summit.

Following the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their mutual interest in further developing the partnership, expanding expert dialogue, and implementing joint initiatives.
