The IICA hosts meeting with experts from leading Chinese human rights think tanks
The International Institute for Central Asia (IICA) hosted a meeting with a Chinese delegation led by Li Hongkui, Vice Chairman of the Board and Secretary-General of the China Foundation for Human Rights Development.

The discussion focused on the current state and future prospects of Uzbekistan-China cooperation on human rights, along with opportunities for establishing partnerships between the think tanks of two countries.

Amb.Javlon Vakhabov, the Managing Director of the IICA, informed the experts about the Institute’s activities, its goals and objectives. He also provided detailed information on current cooperation processes in Central Asia and the interaction between regional states within the "CA+" platform.

Mr.Li Hongkui commended Uzbekistan’s socio-economic transformation and welcomed the steady development of partnership between Tashkent and Beijing, placing particular emphasis on the role of the two countries’ leaders.

It was noted that the close and trust-based relationship between President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of PRC Xi Jinping has played a pivotal role in elevating bilateral ties to the level of an all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership.

The head of the delegation particularly highlighted Uzbekistan’s achievements of the reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan, aimed at providing targeted support to vulnerable segments of the population, noting that these efforts have contributed to a significant reduction in the poverty rate—from nearly 35% to 5.8%.

Dr.Liu Huawen, Director of the Institute of International Law at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, noted strong prospects for further strengthening ties between the analytical and research institutions of Uzbekistan and China.

As of cooperation areas, the participants highlighted joint research on poverty reduction, rural development, and the modernization of the education system, which are seen as an important foundation for ensuring human rights.

At the end of the meeting, both parties expressed their readiness to expand practical cooperation and implement joint projects, including mutual visits and expert discussions within bilateral cooperation and multilateral platforms.
