Jandos Shaimardanov, Director of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies (KISI), on the critical importance of regional cooperation on water security in Central Asia:

By 2050, global water demand is projected to surge by 20–25%. In Central Asia, this challenge will be compounded by demographic growth, climate change, and intensifying strain on transboundary water systems.

As the external environment becomes increasingly volatile, the value of strategic cooperation, predictability, and mutual trust becomes paramount. I am convinced that Central Asia has the capacity to transform the water agenda from a regional vulnerability into a platform for cooperation and collective growth.
